Drug Costs and Helpful Ways to Reduce Them!
At Total Health Pharmacists, we’re frequently asked some good ways to reduce drug costs by our clients. With increasing medication expenses we understand the desire to curb some of those costs. We’d like to share a few methods that could help cut your drugstore bill:
1. Eliminate unnecessary drugs: Many people don’t realize they may be on drugs that do the same thing, this is especially common when you visit multiple doctors and go to more than one pharmacy. Request a medication review with a pharmacist at least every 6 months to make sure you’re not taking something you don’t need. This can also help prevent side effects and drug interactions!
2. Ask your doctor if you can split your pills: In some instances you may be able to safely split your pills, and the doctor can prescribe a pill that’s twice the normal dose. This would make your prescription last twice as long, especially for cash paying consumers. Make sure you check with your doctor or pharmacist to ensure this is safe to do with your prescription!
3. Ask for a generic: Generics are typically much cheaper and just as safe and effective as their brand name counterparts. If a generic doesn’t exist for the prescription the doctor is giving you, ask if there is an alternative that would work for you.
These are 3 simple ways you can save a few dollars every month on your medication bill. If you would like a medication check-up, please don’t hesitate to contact Total Health Pharmacists!
